PRE-PREGNANCY COUNSELLING

ABOUT ME

I am a Melbourne Obstetrician, caring for patients and their families at Frances Perry House and The Royal Women’s Hospital.

I endeavour to provide evidence-based, compassionate and individualised care for all patients. I am passionate about providing the highest quality care to support all patients through every stage of their pregnancy journey.

My practice is a safe place for all patients who want to become parents, including single parents, partnered couples (heterosexual and members of the LGBTQI community) and gestational surrogates with their intended parents.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

I graduated from The University of Melbourne with first-class honours in 2008 and completed my speciality training in obstetrics and gynaecology, and advanced training in high-risk obstetrics at The Royal Woman’s Hospital.

During my fellowship years, my interest in medical education and the mentorship of obstetricians-in-training grew. I am actively involved in the education and training of junior doctors and medical students at the Royal Women’s Hospital.

CONSULTATION

I recommend every person and couple planning to conceive in the next 12 months sees an obstetrician before starting to try for a baby. Pre-pregnancy counselling ensures you have a personalised plan to optimise your chances of a successful and healthy pregnancy.

The session will involve an assessment of the possible risks you may face during pregnancy. I will give you detailed information that will help you to make decisions that are right for you and your family. During the consultation, we will:

  • Evaluate your lifestyle factors

  • Begin appropriate dietary supplementation

  • Optimise all pre-existing medical conditions

  • Review your obstetric history

  • Review your gynaecological history

  • Review and optimise your mental health

  • Review all current medications (to ensure they are safe in pregnancy)

  • Ensure vaccinations are up-to-date

  • Consider genetic carrier screening

  • Find and track your fertile window

Pre-pregnancy counselling is also an opportunity for you to meet me, and ensure that I am the right person to guide you along this wonderful, life-changing journey.
